Difficult to install dentures when elder have no teeth?
Dentures usually take some time to get used to, and if you are afraid that it will be difficult for the elderly to wear dentures, you can try other restorations, such as fixed restorations or dental implants, which are more convenient and practical.
There are generally three types of restorations for missing teeth in the elderly, namely, removable dentures, fixed dentures and dental implants.
- movable dentures (hooked or unhooked):
One of the advantages of removable dentures is that patients can remove them freely for cleaning, they are cheaper and more practical; the not so good part is also the customer’s worry, the discomfort is strong and needs to adapt to for a period of time.
- Fixed dentures:
Fixed dentures are similar to “bridges”.
Advantages and disadvantages of fixed dentures: Like dental implants, the advantages of fixed dentures are natural beauty and strong chewing ability. However, fixed dentures are only suitable for patients who have lost 1 or 2 teeth, and fixed denture inlays must require that the teeth on both sides of the lost teeth are well aligned and in a solid state, which results in many missing teeth not being able to do fixed denture inlays.
- Dental implants:
Dental implants, which refer to the loss of teeth in the patient’s teeth, will be an artificial tooth
Implanted in the alveolar bone, and then according to the shape of the previously lost teeth, to create a dental model, and set this dental model in the oral cavity.
Advantages and disadvantages of dental implants: one of the advantages of dental implants is that they are natural and aesthetic; they are dentures, but they do not look like dentures; they look no different from natural teeth. In addition, dental implants have a stronger chewing function and a long service life. However, although dental implants are good, they also have a bad side: they are more expensive than dentures.
The price of dental implants is more expensive than that of removable dentures, and the time span is longer, usually it takes 6 months for the implant to be successful.
